I Am My Hair.

Whenever I’m dressed cool my parents put up a fight
And if I’m hot shot, mom will cut my hair at night
And in the morning I’m short of my identity
I scream, “Mom and dad, why can’t I be who I wanna be, to be?

I always was a big dreamer and to do what I love needed sacrifices. Every memory of my past seems like to have some music involved. Coming home from Kindergarten and immediately start my self-made mix-tapes I recorded myself. Coming home from elementary school and immediately put my favourite CDs in. Walking home from High School with Headphones on and driving home from college with music as loud as possible.

I just wanna be myself and I want you to love
Me for who I am
I just wanna be myself and I want you to know
I am my hair

Music was my escape, because being a smart girl in a small town can be crucial. I got thrown to the ground, because I had good grades, got chocked by someone I used to think was my friend and slapped in the face winning a sports game. I was different, because I liked Rock, Metal and Punk Music. I had different hair colours, because I didn’t want to look like all the other kids. I’ve put holes in my jeans and immediately got asked if my parents were poor, but all I wanted was to wear something rebellious. They laughed about my dreams, because they knew they would never be able to realise them.

I’ve had enough, this is my prayer
That I’ll die livin’ just as free as my hair
I’ve had enough, this is my prayer
That I’ll die livin’ just as free as my hair

Who ever says that the kids years are the best about growing up never had to fight for themselves. What seems harmless then leaves a scared heart forever. I’m not angry anymore about those kids who weren’t able to realise that I wasn’t that different. I am sorry for them not being able to think and using bullying as their weapon of weakness. I got through it with the help of music. While others spend their Saturdays getting wasted all the time I liked to travel around and visit my real friends I met on concerts or Band Forums.

I’m as free as my hair
I’m as free as my hair
I am my hair
I am my hair

I know that a lot of kids out there are going through the same thing and I told this story for them. You are as free as your hair and don’t let anyone ever tell you that your not worth. You are the world, if not for them you are for me.
