On November 1, 2015 I lost someone incredibly important to me. My cousin was killed in a motorcycle accident and I was devastated. Twelve days later on November 13th, One Direction released their album Made in the A.M. Turning to their music in my darkest times wasn’t a new thing for me. Their music has gotten me through a lot this year. However, while listening to the song Walking In The Wind, I instantly broke down in tears and sobbed.
Their music has saved my life time and time again, but this time they were giving me a connection to someone in the afterlife. From the very first line I was in tears. This song gave me so much peace in my heart and truly makes me feel like I’m able to communicate with my cousin. The verses are me speaking to him, while the chorus and the bridge are his reply to me.
I know many people won’t see this, won’t read it, or just simply won’t care, but I wanted to let people know that One Directions music is so much more than the pop music you hear on the radio. And I wanted to thank Niall, Harry, Liam, and Louis, as well as Julian and other collaborators on that song for giving me something to feel his presence in during one of the hardest times of my life. I haven’t made it through the song yet without crying, but I also haven’t listened to it without smiling and feeling him with me. So truly from the bottom of my heart, thank you.
When people say music saves lives, it’s more than just an expression.
